Why is harmonic analysis needed?

Drives, UPS units, and power electronic loads create harmonic distortion in the network, which leads to transformer and cable heating, compensation failures, and faults in sensitive devices. Harmonic analysis pinpoints the source and level of the distortion; a filter or system revision is then designed on that data.

What does a selectivity (protection coordination) study deliver?

In poorly coordinated protection schemes, a minor fault can black out the entire facility. The selectivity study sets the relay and breaker settings so that a fault disconnects only the affected zone. The result is minimal downtime and fast intervention when a fault occurs.

Can analysis be performed at an existing, operating facility?

Yes — a substantial part of the analysis is carried out without stopping the operation. Power quality measurements are taken while the facility runs; the modelling work is done from existing drawings and nameplate data. Checks that require field verification are aligned with planned maintenance shutdowns.
